Curiosity about what lies beyond the familiar.
TommyAmun is a YouTuber driven by adventure, exploration and the desire to discover what lies beyond the familiar.
Real journeys. Real stories.
His videos take viewers along on real journeys to extraordinary places, from ancient ruins, pyramids and medieval castles to dramatic landscapes, hidden corners and unexpected discoveries along the way.
The aim is not simply to show where he has been, but to make the audience feel as if they were part of the journey. Tommy plans and researches his travels carefully, especially when it comes to history and archaeology, but leaves plenty of room for spontaneous discoveries and changes of plan.
What happens along the way stays part of the story. Mistakes, technical problems and moments of chaos are just as likely to make it into a video as the spectacular views, especially when there is an opportunity to turn them into a joke. Self-irony is very much part of the experience.
A country is more than its landmarks.
Meeting people is just as important as visiting places. Tommy enjoys getting to know locals, talking to people and experiencing a country beyond its landmarks. These encounters are not staged for the camera. When they happen, they are filmed as naturally as possible.
Wherever he travels, he approaches local cultures, customs and places with respect and follows the rules of the country he is visiting.
The story behind the place.
History is another recurring part of the channel. Tommy has a long-standing interest in archaeology and ancient history, with a particular passion for ancient Egypt.
Research often continues during the editing process, allowing additional context and discoveries to become part of the finished story through voice-over. The information is intended to be grounded in serious research rather than sensationalism or pseudohistory.
Outside the comfort zone, not chasing the extreme.
Adventure does not necessarily mean chasing the biggest possible adrenaline rush. Tommy is willing to step outside his comfort zone and take on experiences that require a little courage, but the goal is discovery rather than extremity. The most important thing is that there is something new to experience.
LARP, music and Amun.
Travel is the main focus of TommyAmun, while LARP forms a major second part of the channel. Tommy has been playing his long-running character Amun for more than two decades and regularly documents LARP events, including the people, atmosphere and stories that make those worlds come alive.
Music appears more occasionally, usually in the form of a cappella covers recorded at memorable locations during his travels.
The name TommyAmun itself combines Tommy with Amun, his long-running LARP character.
Get off the couch. Discover the world.
At its core, TommyAmun is about curiosity, real experiences and having a good time while exploring the world. The hope is that viewers finish a video not only entertained, but with the feeling that they have been somewhere new themselves, and perhaps with the urge to get off the couch and discover something of their own.
